This medicine helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, it lowers the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with risk factors for coronary artery disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is also effective in reducing the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction, stroke, revascularization procedures, hospitalization due to heart failure, and angina. This drug is used to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with hyperlipidemia and to increase HDL cholesterol levels. It is especially helpful in treating hypercholesterolemia in pediatric patients with a family history or other risk factors. Overall, it is used to improve cardiovascular health and reduce risk.

Precautions

This medication may pose a risk of muscle problems; if symptoms such as muscle pain or weakness occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Especially, in suspected cases of severe myopathy or rhabdomyolysis, treatment should be stopped, and care should be taken in patients with poor kidney function or a history of liver disease. This medication can affect liver function; therefore, regular liver function tests should be conducted, and any abnormal symptoms should be reported immediately. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and nursing mothers should not take this medication, and women of childbearing age should use appropriate contraception while on this medication. It should not be used in children under 10 years of age, and caution is also needed when administering to elderly patients or those with kidney impairments.
