This medication is used in patients with hypertension when blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy. It helps maintain health by effectively controlling blood pressure and reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

The usual dosage of this medication is 50 mg of losartan potassium/12.5 mg of hydrochlorothiazide once daily. Doses exceeding 100 mg of losartan potassium/25 mg of hydrochlorothiazide per day are not recommended. - Patients whose blood pressure is not controlled with losartan or hydrochlorothiazide monotherapy: start with 50 mg of losartan potassium/12.5 mg of hydrochlorothiazide once daily.

Children's dosage

There is no experience using this medication in children and adolescents, and thus the combination of losartan-hydrochlorothiazide should not be administered to children and adolescents.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm or death to the fetus and newborn, particularly during pregnancy; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. It should not be used by individuals who are allergic to this medication or those with certain kidney issues, liver disorders, electrolyte imbalances, or anuria. Patients with hypotension, kidney disease, liver disorders, hyperuricemia, diabetes, or cerebrovascular disorders should use this medication with caution and have their condition checked regularly at a doctor's direction. During treatment with this medication, blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels should be monitored periodically for any abnormal signs. Due to the hydrochlorothiazide component, electrolyte imbalances, particularly hypokalemia or hypercalcemia, may occur; if symptoms arise, consult a doctor immediately. This medication can make the skin sensitive to sunlight, so it is essential to avoid prolonged exposure to UV rays and take precautions to protect the skin. Be cautious when driving or operating machinery, as dizziness or drowsiness may occur. Since this medication can interact with other drugs, all medications currently taken should be disclosed to a physician or pharmacist, especially when combined with potassium supplements, diuretics, or antihypertensives. There is no experience using this medication in children or adolescents, so it is advisable not to administer it to them. Elderly patients may experience adverse reactions more frequently and should use this medication with extra caution. In the case of overdose, hypotension and arrhythmia may occur; seek medical attention immediately. This medication should be stored in its original container, out of reach of children, and with care given to the storage environment.

Rash, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash accompanied by high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/ocular mucosa, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attack, respiratory issues with cough + fever, yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion, visual disturbances, paralysis, urination changes

Mild side effects

Abdominal pain, edema/swelling, palpitations, back pain, dizziness, cough, sinusitis, upper respiratory tract infection, weakness/fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, headache, bronchitis, pharyngitis, angioedema (swelling of lips and eyelids and facial rash), skin peeling on palms, hemolysis, chest pain, facial swelling, fever, orthostatic hypotension, fainting, angina, arrhythmia, cerebrovascular accident, hypotension, myocardial infarction, secondary atrioventricular block, anorexia, constipation, dental pain, oral dryness
