This medication is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, particularly erosive reflux esophagitis, and for the long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis. It also helps relieve symptoms in those with gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis. It is effective for the treatment and prevention of recurrence of duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers when used in combination with antibiotics for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori. It is utilized in short-term and maintenance therapy for alleviating upper gastrointestinal symptoms caused by the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as for healing and preventing associated gastric and duodenal ulcers. It is also helpful in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, as well as for preventing rebleeding in gastric or duodenal ulcers. It is effectively used for a variety of gastrointestinal disorders.
