Improvement of symptoms of Alzheimer's type dementia
Alzheimer's type dementia is a disease characterized by memory decline and cognitive dysfunction. This medication helps alleviate cognitive dysfunction and memory decline symptoms caused by Alzheimer's type dementia. It has effects that improve patients' daily living abilities and slow the progression of dementia. Additionally, it contributes to improving mental confusion and behavioral issues, thus enhancing quality of life. This drug is used for the treatment of symptoms of Alzheimer's type dementia.
As donepezil hydrochloride, administer 5 mg once daily before bedtime. For 4-6 weeks, administer the 5 mg dosage and evaluate the clinical response during this period before increasing to 10 mg. When increasing to a daily 10 mg, administer with caution regarding gastrointestinal adverse reactions. Underweight women aged 85 or older should not exceed 5 mg daily.

This drug contains donepezil hydrochloride hydrate as its active ingredient and is mainly used to treat symptoms of Alzheimer's type dementia. This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, individuals allergic to this drug or its components, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, breastfeeding women, and patients with lactose intolerance or genetic lactose metabolism disorders should not take this medication. Patients with heart disease, a history of peptic ulcers, asthma, or obstructive lung disease, and those with extrapyramidal disorders such as Parkinson's disease should use this medication with special caution. This drug may slow heart rate or cause arrhythmias, worsen gastrointestinal conditions, and exacerbate respiratory symptoms. Various side effects may occur while taking this medication. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, insomnia, and loss of appetite, while severe cases may result in fainting, heart problems, liver function impairment, neurological symptoms, muscle issues, etc. If these symptoms occur, consult a physician immediately. This medication can affect the heart, so patients with a history of heart disease or prolonged QT interval should have an electrocardiogram taken during treatment. Additionally, this medication may interact with other drugs, so be sure to inform your healthcare provider of any other medications you are currently taking. Special caution is needed if taken in conjunction with specific antibiotics, antidepressants, antiarrhythmics, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised not to take this medication unless absolutely necessary and after consulting with a healthcare professional. Safety in children has not been established, so it should not be used in pediatric patients. In case of overdose, symptoms such as vomiting, sweating, bradycardia, and respiratory depression may occur; appropriate treatment should be sought immediately at a medical facility. Atropine may be used as an antidote. This medication must be kept out of reach of children, and transferring it to other containers should be avoided as it can compromise quality. Finally, this medication may affect driving or operating machinery, so caution is needed during initial use or changes in dosage.
