This medication is used for the treatment of Alzheimer's type dementia symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

As Donepezil Hydrochloride, administer 5 mg once daily before bedtime. After 15 days, reach a normal state and maintain the 5 mg dosage for 4-6 weeks. After evaluating clinical response, increase up to 10 mg. When increasing the dose to 10 mg, be cautious of gastrointestinal adverse reactions. For underweight female patients aged 85 years and older, the daily dose should not exceed 5 mg, and careful monitoring is required.

Child dose

There is no experience using this medication in children.

Precautions

This drug contains Donepezil Hydrochloride as its main ingredient, and is used for alleviation of Alzheimer's type dementia symptoms. Do not use this medication if you have an allergic reaction to Donepezil Hydrochloride, piperidine derivatives, or any components of this medication. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not take this medication. This medication contains lactose, so patients with genetic disorders such as galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should also avoid this medication. Patients with heart disease or conduction disorders may experience bradycardia or arrhythmia, so caution should be exercised while taking this medication. Those taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or with a history of peptic ulcers should use this medication carefully as it may worsen gastrointestinal disorders. Patients with asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease may experience worsening symptoms due to bronchoconstriction and increased mucus secretion, so they should be careful. Patients with extrapyramidal disorders such as Parkinson's disease should be cautious as this medication may worsen their symptoms. Various side effects may occur with this medication, including, in severe cases, syncope, cardiovascular problems, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver dysfunction, seizures, movement disorders, dyspnea, acute pancreatitis, and renal failure. Common symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, insomnia, and decreased appetite. This medication can affect the heart, so patients with a history of heart disease or prolonged QT interval should take it under medical supervision, and an electrocardiogram may be required. Other memory disorders aside from dementia are not approved for use with this medication, and therapeutic effects should be evaluated regularly. This medication may affect driving or operating machinery, so caution is needed at the beginning of treatment or when changing doses. Additionally, this medication may have interactions with various drugs, so anyone taking other medications should inform their doctor or pharmacist. Women who are pregnant or nursing should avoid using this medication except in special circumstances, and nursing should be stopped during the treatment period. Safety in pediatric patients has not been established; therefore, it should not be used in children. In case of overdose, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, respiratory depression, seizures may occur, and immediate medical help should be sought, with atropine as an antidote. Store this medication out of reach of children and avoid transferring it to other containers.
