How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered 1-2 times a day, before or with meals. Dosages may be adjusted based on each patient's current treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerance, with appropriate blood glucose monitoring required. Treatment typically starts at a low dose, and dosage can be adjusted considering the drugs currently taken by the patient and their blood glucose levels. Precautions

This medication may cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia; therefore, caution is needed. In particular, if kidney function deteriorates rapidly, metformin may accumulate in the body and increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so patients with poor kidney function should avoid taking it. In cases of dehydration, severe diarrhea, vomiting, or fever, the use of this medication should be temporarily discontinued, and a doctor must be consulted. Additionally, certain medications may affect kidney function when used concurrently, so healthcare providers should be informed of any other medications being taken. Patients at risk for cardiovascular disease should be particularly cautious as this medication may increase cardiovascular mortality. This medication should not be administered to patients with insulin-dependent diabetes, acute metabolic acidosis, severe liver dysfunction, severe kidney impairment, or to pregnant or nursing women. During treatment, there is a risk of hypoglycemia, so patients should avoid skipping meals, excessive exercise, and alcohol consumption, and should frequently monitor their blood glucose levels. Gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting may occur, so it is helpful to take this medication with food initially. In case of allergic reactions, it is important to inform the physician immediately and stop taking the medication. This medication may reduce vitamin B12 levels, so regular monitoring of vitamin B12 status is advisable for long-term users. Blood glucose control should be regularly checked, and kidney function should also be periodically evaluated, as dosage adjustments may be necessary depending on the condition. Overdosage may lead to hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis, so immediate medical attention should be sought for appropriate treatment. If pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or if breastfeeding, this medication should not be used, and appropriate treatment methods should be discussed with a doctor. Care should be taken when driving or operating machinery as hypoglycemia or dizziness may increase the risk of accidents. When storing this medication, keep it out of reach of children and avoid transferring it to other containers.
