Treatment of essential hypertension and reduction of cardiovascular disease risk
This drug controls blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension, and is used to reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and mortality from cardiovascular disease in patients aged 55 years and older who are at high risk for cardiovascular diseases. It is particularly effective for patients with a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, transient ischemic attack, or high-risk diabetes. Therefore, it helps improve cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of complications.
1. Essential Hypertension The recommended starting dose is 40 mg of Telmisartan taken orally once daily with water, regardless of meals. A dose of 20 mg once daily may be effective for some patients, and if necessary, the dose may be increased up to 80 mg once daily. The maximum antihypertensive effect occurs 4 to 8 weeks after initiating treatment. 2. Reduction of Risk of Cardiovascular Disease For this purpose, it is recommended to take 80 mg once daily with water, regardless of meals. The effects of doses below 80 mg on morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease are not known. When starting therapy with this drug for the purpose of reducing cardiovascular risk, monitoring of blood pressure is recommended, and appropriate adjustments of antihypertensives may be required. ○ Patients with Liver Impairment Patients with mild to moderate liver impairment should be treated with caution and should not exceed a dose of 40 mg once daily.
