Reduces the risk of hypertension and coronary artery heart disease, improves dyslipidemia
This medication is used for patients who require the combined treatment of amlodipine, which is used for the treatment of hypertension and angina, and atorvastatin, which is used to reduce high cholesterol and cardiovascular risks. Amlodipine dilates blood vessels to lower blood pressure, improves myocardial ischemia due to stable and variant angina, and reduces the risk of hospitalization for angina and the need for vascular intervention. Atorvastatin reduces the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular intervention, and angina in patients at high risk for coronary artery heart disease and stroke, and helps improve cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with dyslipidemia. Particularly, it reduces cardiovascular risks in high-risk groups, including diabetes patients and those with a family history. The combination of these two medications plays a vital role in effectively managing cardiovascular health, contributing to the overall reduction of cardiovascular disease risk.
This medication is administered only to adults, and the dosage must be individualized based on the effects and tolerance of each component, amlodipine/atorvastatin, for each patient. Amlodipine (S-Amlodipine): Administer 5 (2.5) mg orally once daily, and the dosage may be increased up to 10 (5) mg daily based on patient response. Atorvastatin: Patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia should take 10 mg once daily.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be taken by those who are allergic to this drug or similar components, those with severe liver problems or active liver diseases. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, nursing mothers, patients with muscle disorders, severe aortic stenosis, patients in shock, those within one month post-myocardial infarction, patients with unstable angina, and those taking certain antiviral medications should also avoid this drug. This medication should be used with caution in patients with severely impaired kidney function, elderly patients, alcoholics or those with a history of liver disease, patients at risk for muscle disorders, acute heart failure, patients with very high blood pressure or weakened liver function, and those with severe myasthenia. While taking this drug, side effects such as fatigue, edema, dizziness, headaches, dyspepsia, and myalgia may occur, and rarely hepatic dysfunction or allergic reactions can also happen. Regular liver function tests and muscle-related tests should be conducted, and immediate medical advice should be sought if muscle pain or weakness occurs. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not use this drug, and women who may become pregnant should take appropriate contraceptive measures. Additionally, this drug's safety in children or elderly patients has not been sufficiently established, so caution is required. In cases of overdose, blood pressure may drop too low or heart function may be compromised, so immediate contact with medical personnel is necessary, and emergency treatment should be received if needed. This drug may interact with other medications, so if there are any currently taken medications, it is essential to inform the doctor or pharmacist, especially when taken with certain antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals, blood pressure drugs, and anticoagulants.
