This medication is used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also helpful in preventing post-surgical ulcers and treating gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It may be administered before anesthesia to prevent Mendelson's syndrome. This medication suppresses gastric acid secretion, protects the gastric mucosa, and is effective in alleviating symptoms. It is widely used for various gastrointestinal disorders.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Usually, 2 tablets orally 2 times a day in the morning and before bed, regardless of meals. 1) Gastric and duodenal ulcers Take 2 tablets 2 times a day or take 4 tablets once before bedtime. Particularly for duodenal ulcer patients, taking 4 tablets 2 times a day in the morning and before bed can yield a higher treatment rate. 2) Gastroesophageal reflux disease For 8 weeks, take 2 tablets 2 times a day or 4 tablets once a day before bedtime.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to patients undergoing dialysis or those with kidney function impairments. Additionally, it should be avoided in patients with a history of allergic reactions to this medication or its components, those with acute porphyria, patients who have undergone upper gastrointestinal surgery, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, premature infants and newborns, and patients on potassium-restricted diets. Patients with impaired liver function or a history of drug allergies, elderly patients, those with a history of kidney function abnormalities, and patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should use this medication cautiously; especially, middle-aged individuals with gastric cancer symptoms should confirm malignancy before use, as this medication can mask such symptoms. Patients with Helicobacter pylori infection who have gastric and duodenal ulcers require bacterial eradication efforts, and severe ICU patients or patients with hypophosphatemia also need special caution. While taking this medication, rare reactions like anaphylactic shock, skin rashes, hives, angioedema, and respiratory distress may occur; in such cases, usage should be discontinued immediately and healthcare professionals consulted. Blood tests have reported leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, abnormal liver function, arrhythmias, gastrointestinal disorders, and neuropsychiatric symptoms; if any of these occur, please inform healthcare professionals immediately. Long-term use should be avoided, and regular checks for blood, liver, and kidney function should be done during treatment. Particularly, elderly patients or those with chronic lung diseases, diabetes, and weakened immunity may have an increased risk of pneumonia, so caution is necessary. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs, avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. This medication may interact with other drugs, so consult healthcare professionals, especially when taking anticoagulants, antibiotics, anticonvulsants, etc.; some medications may require spacing out their administration. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this medication, and it is not recommended for children as safety and efficacy are not established. In cases of overdose, treatments such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be needed, and in severe cases, blood dialysis may be necessary to remove the drug. This medication reduces gastric acid secretion, which may promote bacterial growth in the stomach; therefore, eye examinations may be necessary during long-term use.
