Improvement of reduced tear production due to ocular inflammation associated with keratoconjunctivitis sicca
This medication is used for ocular inflammation related to keratoconjunctivitis that occurs due to suppression of tear production. It helps improve eye dryness and inflammation by enhancing the production of tears.
Instill 1 drop into each eye twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart. If this drug is used at the same time as artificial tears, administer them 15 minutes apart. Discard any remaining solution and the container after instillation.
This medication has not been adequately studied in patients with a history of herpetic keratitis, and caution is advised in such patients. The effect of increased tear production has not been observed in patients using topical anti-inflammatory agents or punctal plugs. This medication should not be used in patients with active ocular infections or those with known allergic reactions to its components. Commonly, this medication may cause a burning sensation in the eyes, and some patients may experience conjunctival hyperemia, eye discharge, tearing, eye pain, foreign body sensation, itching, redness, visual disturbances, and other symptoms. Rarely, symptoms such as ocular swelling, severe allergic reactions, ocular surface damage, and urticaria may occur, and if any unusual symptoms are observed, immediate consultation with medical personnel is required. This medication should be used for ophthalmic purposes only, and care should be taken to avoid contact of the container tip with the eye to prevent injury. Caution should be exercised when using this medication during pregnancy; animal studies have shown that it may affect the fetus only at very high doses, but safety in pregnant women has not been established. If this medication is used by breastfeeding women, caution is also necessary, and studies on whether it is secreted in breast milk following topical administration are still lacking. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been sufficiently confirmed in children under the age of 16, so use is not recommended. After opening the product, it should be used immediately, and any remaining solution and containers should be discarded. Contact lenses should not be worn during use; they must be removed before application and can be worn again after 15 minutes. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and is associated with a potential risk of cancer related to prolonged use, although some results from animal studies exist, but the effects on humans are unclear. This medication is known not to cause mutagenicity or genotoxicity, but it should always be used according to the instructions of a healthcare professional.
