This medication treats ulcers that occur in the stomach and duodenum, and is also used for gastritis and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Additionally, it helps manage acid hypersecretion diseases such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It can be administered prior to anesthesia to prevent Mendelson's syndrome, and is effective in preventing ulcers that may occur post-surgery. It is also used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is widely used for various gastrointestinal diseases and helps improve patients' gastric health.

How to take

Adults: Generally, take 2 tablets orally twice a day, regardless of meals, in the morning and before bedtime. 1) Gastric and duodenal ulcers: Administer 2 tablets twice daily or 4 tablets once a day before bedtime. For patients with duodenal ulcers, it may be administered 4 tablets twice a day in the morning and before bedtime. 2) Gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 2 tablets twice a day for 8 weeks, or 4 tablets once a day before bedtime.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with poor renal function or those undergoing dialysis. Patients who have previously experienced allergic reactions to this medication or its components should not take it. Patients with a rare condition known as acute porphyria should also avoid using this medication. It should not be administered to patients who have undergone upper gastrointestinal surgery, pregnant women, or women who may become pregnant, as well as to premature infants or newborns. Patients on dietary restrictions that limit potassium intake should be cautious. Patients with liver dysfunction or a history of drug allergies, the elderly, and those with a history of kidney issues should use this medication carefully. Particular caution is needed when co-administering non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and regular monitoring of their condition is recommended. As it can mask symptoms of gastric cancer, it is essential to confirm the malignancy of gastric ulcer patients or those over middle age with new or changed dyspeptic symptoms before treatment. Patients with H. pylori infection in gastric and duodenal ulcers should also undergo treatment to eliminate the bacteria. Severely ill ICU patients may need caution as gastric stones might form after administration. Patients with hypophosphatemia should be cautious since the aluminum component in this medication may interfere with phosphate absorption. Patients with swallowing difficulties should be careful after taking this medication, as respiratory complications may occur. This medication can rarely cause severe allergic reactions, such as anaphylactic shock, so if any unusual symptoms arise during administration, treatment should be discontinued immediately. If any allergic symptoms, such as skin rash, hives, breathing difficulties, or low blood pressure, are observed, discontinue use of this medication. Blood tests may reveal leukopenia or thrombocytopenia, so patients must inform their doctor immediately if any symptoms arise and get tested. If signs of liver dysfunction occur, discontinue the medication and seek treatment. Cardiovascular issues, such as arrhythmias or vasculitis, can also occur rarely. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, or abdominal pain, and stools may appear black, but this typically requires no special treatment. In severe cases or among the elderly, neurological symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, insomnia, or headaches may occur, requiring caution. Muscle pain or joint pain may rarely occur, and in severe instances, discontinuation of the medication should be considered. Skin rashes or hair loss have also been reported as rare side effects. This medication is not recommended for long-term use, and if no therapeutic effect is observed, changing to another medication is advised. Elderly patients or those with chronic diseases may have an increased risk of pneumonia and should be cautious. If symptoms of dizziness or drowsiness occur during administration, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery. This medication may affect the absorption or metabolism of other drugs, so caution is necessary regarding interactions with other medications being taken. In particular, careful monitoring of blood coagulation status is essential when taken in conjunction with certain anticoagulants. When used with antibiotics or anticonvulsants, it is advisable to maintain a time interval between doses. It is safer not to use this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established, so avoiding use in this population is preferable. This medication may cause false positive results in urine protein tests, so care should be taken during testing. In case of overdose, emergency treatment such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, and in some cases, dialysis may be helpful. Finally, this medication reduces gastric acid secretion, which may promote bacterial growth within the gastrointestinal tract, so additional caution, such as eye examinations, may be necessary during long-term use.
