This medication is used to prevent and treat problems that may occur due to vitamin D deficiency. It is effective for the elderly, adolescents, and adults who are deficient in vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency can affect bone health, thus improving it helps maintain a healthy lifestyle. This medication restores vitamin D levels to normal and enhances bone and overall health. Therefore, it is used for the prevention and treatment of vitamin D deficiency.

How it is given

Adult administration

Administer 200,000 IU of cholecalciferol by intramuscular injection. Ensure that the annual dosage does not exceed 600,000 IU of cholecalciferol.

Child administration

Administer 200,000 IU of cholecalciferol by intramuscular injection.

Precautions

This medication contains vitamin D, and caution must be exercised to avoid overdose. When taking it with vitamin D fortified foods or other vitamin D preparations, the total intake should be considered. Regularly check the calcium levels in the blood to ensure they do not exceed normal ranges. Stop the medication if blood serum calcium is too high or if urine calcium is excreted excessively. In cases of high calcium intake, regularly monitor calcium levels in the blood and urine. This medication should not be used by individuals who are allergic to its components or have conditions such as hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria, or kidney stones. Additionally, patients with poor kidney function, immobilized patients, patients with certain diseases, and pregnant or nursing women should not take this medication. Various side effects may occur, such as headaches, fatigue, muscle pain, gastrointestinal disorders, dehydration, hypertension, and kidney issues; thus, any unusual symptoms should prompt immediate consultation with a physician. Regularly check that the blood vitamin D level does not become too high, and periodically measure serum creatinine levels to monitor kidney function. Special caution is advised for older individuals or those taking certain medications together. This medication may interact with other drugs, so consult a professional when taken in conjunction with anticonvulsants, steroids, certain diuretics, antacids, or warfarin. During pregnancy, it is important to avoid overdose, and this medication is not recommended for pregnant or nursing women. Safety and efficacy in children under 12 years have not yet been established. In case of overdose, immediately stop taking the medication, reduce calcium intake, ensure adequate hydration, and take measures to promote diuresis. Do not mix this medication with other drugs, use it quickly after opening, and dispose of any remaining medication.

Storage
