Thioctic acid supplementation; treatment of inner ear hearing loss and Leigh syndrome
Thioctic acid is used in the treatment of inner ear deafness caused by toxicities from streptomycin or gentamicin, as well as noise-induced deafness and subacute necrotizing encephalomyelitis such as Leigh syndrome, particularly in cases of increased energy demand due to intense physical labor. If no effect is observed after approximately 1 month of administration, it is advisable not to continue its use. This medication mainly helps in treating conditions related to the nervous system.
The usual adult dose is 10~25mg of thioctic acid by intravenous injection once daily. The dosage may be adjusted according to age and symptoms.
