  • Vitamin D deficiency
View approved original text

This medication is used to prevent and treat vitamin D deficiency in elderly people, adolescents, and adults with vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D plays an important role in maintaining bone health and assisting calcium absorption. A deficiency can lead to issues like osteoporosis or osteomalacia. This medication helps improve these deficiency states and protects bone health.

How it is given

Adult administration

Administer 200,000 IU of cholecalciferol by intramuscular injection. Ensure the annual dosage does not exceed 600,000 IU.

Child administration

Administer 200,000 IU of cholecalciferol by intramuscular injection.

Precautions

This medication contains vitamin D, so the total intake of vitamin D should be carefully considered when taken with vitamin D-fortified foods or other vitamin D preparations. Regular checks of calcium levels in the blood are necessary, and treatment should be stopped if serum calcium levels exceed 10.5mg/dL or if urine calcium levels exceed a certain threshold. If calcium intake is high, it's important to frequently monitor calcium levels in both the blood and urine to ensure there are no abnormalities. The glass container of the injection may have glass fragments when broken, so it should be handled very carefully, especially when used with children or the elderly. Individuals with allergies to any ingredients, hypercalcemia, kidney stones, or impaired kidney function should not take this medication. Pregnant or nursing women should also avoid using this medication, and safety for children under the age of 12 has not been established. Various side effects such as headache, fatigue, muscle pain, digestive disturbances, dehydration, hypertension, and kidney problems may occur. If any abnormalities are observed, consult a physician immediately. Serum creatinine levels should be measured every 3 to 6 months to assess kidney function, and if necessary, the dosage should be adjusted or the medication stopped. There may be interactions with other medications, so caution is needed, especially for those taking anticonvulsants, diuretics, antacids, or warfarin. In cases of overdose, vitamin D administration should be stopped immediately, calcium intake should be reduced, and diuresis should be promoted while increasing fluid intake. This medication should not be mixed with other drugs, should be used quickly after opening, and any remaining medication should be discarded. Store in a cool, dark place, avoiding direct sunlight, and at temperatures between 1 and 25 degrees Celsius.
