Prevention of rejection after kidney transplantation and treatment of autoimmune diseases
This medication helps to inhibit rejection that may occur after kidney transplantation, allowing the transplanted kidney to function properly. Additionally, it regulates the symptoms of autoimmune diseases, alleviating excessive reactions of the immune system. It is used for the prevention of rejection after kidney transplantation and the treatment of autoimmune diseases.
After kidney transplantation: Administer azathioprine orally at an initial dose of 3-5 mg per kg of body weight daily and a maintenance dose of 0.5-2 mg per kg of body weight daily. If creatinine clearance is 20 mL/min or less, do not exceed 1.5mg per kg of body weight daily. Autoimmune diseases: Administer 2.0-2.5 mg per kg of body weight daily for treatment of conditions other than chronic active arthritis. For treatment of chronic active arthritis, administer 1.0-1.5mg per kg of body weight daily. The tolerated and effective doses vary among patients; therefore, doses should be adjusted carefully to achieve the optimal therapeutic effect. Consider discontinuing treatment if the condition has not improved after 12 weeks. Adjust the dose as appropriate according to age and symptoms.
This medication should not be used in patients with specific allergic reactions, or in patients with severely impaired liver, kidney, or bone marrow function. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication, and patients with genetic metabolic disorders such as lactose intolerance should also avoid it. Dosage should be adjusted or used cautiously in patients with weakened bone marrow function, those with infections, or those with liver or kidney function issues. As this medication suppresses the immune system, there may be an increased risk of infections as well as serious infections or the possibility of tumor development, so caution is required. Regular blood tests are necessary due to the potential decrease in blood cell counts, and liver function tests should also be conducted due to possible liver function abnormalities. If any abnormal symptoms such as skin rashes, fever, or difficulty breathing occur during treatment, consult a healthcare provider immediately. There are many interactions with other medications, so caution is needed, especially when taking immunosuppressants, anticoagulants, or certain antibiotics. Long-term use of this medication may increase the risk of tumor development, so regular check-ups and skin protection are important. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication, and breastfeeding should also be discontinued or medication should be stopped. In case of overdose, symptoms such as bone marrow suppression, vomiting, diarrhea, and liver function abnormalities may occur, and immediate medical attention is required. This medication should be kept out of reach of children for safety and should be stored in its original container.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent exposure to air or light. The storage temperature should be maintained between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature, and it is important to avoid direct sunlight.
