This medication helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. For example, it is effective in reducing the risks of myocardial infarction, stroke, need for vascular surgery, and angina in adults with risk factors for coronary heart disease. It can also reduce the risks of myocardial infarction and stroke in patients with type 2 diabetes. Furthermore, for patients with clinical evidence, it can lower the risk of hospitalization due to myocardial infarction, stroke, as well as congestive heart failure. For patients with hyperlipidemia, it is used to lower LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglyceride levels, while increasing HDL cholesterol. It is especially effective in patients with various types of dyslipidemia and familial hypercholesterolemia that are difficult to control with diet alone. It also helps reduce cholesterol levels in children aged 10 to 17 years who meet specific criteria. This medication is used to improve cardiovascular health.
