Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with complete biliary obstruction. Additionally, it contains lactose, therefore, it should not be administered to patients with a genetic inability to digest lactose. Use with caution in patients with chronic active hepatitis or liver cirrhosis, hypokalemia, severe pancreatic disease, gastrointestinal ulcers, or gallstones. During treatment, gastrointestinal symptoms such as occasional diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting may occur, and rarely abdominal pain, constipation, heartburn, or gastric discomfort may develop. There can also be rare hypersensitivity reactions such as itching or rash, and sometimes a skin rash may appear, but generally, symptoms resolve when used with antihistamines. Transient jaundice may occur, but stopping the medication or using jaundice treatment can alleviate symptoms. Rarely, symptoms such as general fatigue or dizziness may appear. This medication was studied in 640 patients with chronic persistent hepatitis over 6 years, during which adverse drug reactions were reported very rarely; however, serious reactions such as cirrhosis, ascites, and acute Hepatitis C may occur, necessitating careful monitoring. It is essential to adhere to the prescribed dosage and regimen; if symptoms do not improve after a maximum of 8 weeks or if any unusual symptoms arise, immediately discontinue use and consult a doctor or pharmacist. It is important to store this medication out of reach of children. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid taking this medication, as studies in animals have reported potential harm to the fetus. Finally, when taken with oral diabetes medications, the effects of the diabetes medications may be enhanced, necessitating caution when using this medication.
