This medication helps improve symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia. It reduces the size of the enlarged prostate and facilitates urination, thereby decreasing the incidence of acute urinary retention. Additionally, it reduces the need for surgeries related to the prostate, such as transurethral resection or prostatectomy. Overall, it improves prostate health and contributes to enhancing the quality of life for patients.
Administer 5 mg of finasteride orally once daily, regardless of meals. Even if symptoms improve, a minimum treatment duration of 6 months is required.
This medication should not be used in children or women. Specifically, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid touching broken pieces of this medication. This drug can cause psychological symptoms such as mood changes or depression, so if these symptoms arise, it is important to consult a healthcare professional immediately. Patients who have allergies to this drug or have certain genetic lactose intolerance disorders, or are allergic to soybean oil, soy, or peanuts should not use this medication. Patients with poor liver function or issues with fat metabolism should use this medication with caution. This medication may cause side effects related to sexual function, and reports of erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, and ejaculation disorders have been documented. If these symptoms occur, it is important to inform a healthcare provider. There have been reports of a potential risk of male breast cancer with long-term use, but a clear causal relationship has not yet been established. This medication may also affect prostate cancer risk, so men over the age of 55 should have regular screenings. Pregnant women should not take this medication or come into contact with broken pieces, and breastfeeding women are also advised against using it. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established, hence it is not used. Elderly patients can use it without specific dose adjustments but should follow their physician's instructions. This drug may affect blood test results, hence regular tests should be conducted to monitor condition. There is no specific treatment for overdose, but it is important to adhere to the recommended dosage. Store out of reach of children and avoid transferring to other containers.
