Improvement in blood pressure control for essential hypertension
This medicine is used for patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy.
The recommended adult dosage is one tablet containing valsartan 80 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, taken with a small amount of water regardless of meals. The valsartan 160 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg dosage applies when prescribed for blood pressure reduction. For patients with renal impairment, mild to moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance above 30 mL/min) does not require dosage adjustment. For patients with liver impairment,

Patients with a history of skin cancer or sun sensitivity should pay attention to skin protection while taking this drug, and should notify a physician immediately if any skin issues arise. Interactions with other medications may occur, so if you are taking any other drugs, be sure to inform your healthcare provider, particularly with lithium preparations, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and potassium-sparing diuretics. It is safer for pregnant women or those planning to become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, to avoid using this drug, and they should consult a physician if needed. Safety in children has not been established, so it should not be used in pediatric patients.
