Prevention and treatment of vitamin D deficiency
This medication is used to prevent and treat vitamin D deficiency in the elderly, adolescents, and adults who are deficient in vitamin D. Vitamin D plays an important role in maintaining bone health and preventing osteoporosis, so adequate supplementation is necessary when deficient. This drug effectively improves issues related to vitamin D deficiency.
Administer 200,000 IU of cholecalciferol via intramuscular injection. For the elderly, administer 100,000 IU of cholecalciferol via intramuscular injection. Ensure that the annual dosage does not exceed 600,000 IU of cholecalciferol.
For adolescents, administer 200,000 IU of cholecalciferol via intramuscular injection.
This medication contains vitamin D, so excessive dosage should be avoided. When used with vitamin D fortified foods or other medications, the total vitamin D content should be carefully checked. Regularly check calcium levels in blood and urine; if calcium levels become too high, discontinue use. Extra caution is needed when there is a high calcium intake. This medication should not be used in patients with certain conditions. For example, patients with hypercalcemia, kidney stones, poor kidney function, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication. Side effects such as headache, fatigue, muscle pain, indigestion, dehydration, hypertension, kidney problems, arrhythmia, and skin rash may occur while using this medication. Inflammation or reaction at the injection site may also occur, so caution is advised. Regularly check vitamin D levels in the blood to manage and prevent severe deficiency, and it is important for patients with reduced kidney function or the elderly to undergo periodic kidney function tests. Caution should be exercised when taking this medication with other drugs. The efficacy or side effects may change when used with certain anticonvulsants, diuretics, antacids, anticoagulants, etc., so consult a doctor or pharmacist. Do not take this medication during pregnancy, and if overdose occurs, immediately stop using the drug, reduce calcium intake, and increase fluid intake. Do not mix this medication with other drugs, and use it as soon as possible after opening; dispose of any remaining medication.
