Improvement of blood pressure control when monotherapy for hypertension is insufficient
This medication is used to effectively lower and control blood pressure in patients with hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy.
The usual adult dose is 1 tablet of Losartan Potassium 50 mg / Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily. Doses exceeding Losartan Potassium 100 mg / Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg daily are not recommended. Patients whose blood pressure is not controlled with monotherapy with Losartan or Hydrochlorothiazide should start with Losartan Potassium 50 mg / Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily.
There is no experience in the use of this medication for children and adolescents (under 18 years), so it should not be administered to them.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus when taken during pregnancy, particularly in the second and third trimesters. There is a heightened risk of impaired fetal lung development, skeletal deformities, and kidney problems. If pregnancy is confirmed, the medication should be stopped immediately, and women who may become pregnant should avoid using this drug. This medication should not be used by patients with severe allergies, severely impaired kidney function, severe liver disorders, or certain electrolyte imbalances. Patients with hypersensitivity to sulfonamide drugs or anuria should also avoid this medication. Patients with hypotension, kidney problems, liver disease, diabetes, gout, or cerebrovascular disorders should use this medication cautiously, particularly elderly patients or those with a history of skin cancer. This drug has a blood pressure-lowering effect, and initial use may cause dizziness or drowsiness; in some cases, there is a risk of fainting due to severe hypotension, so caution is needed. It may cause fluctuations in potassium levels, so potassium supplements or potassium-containing foods should not be taken without consulting a physician, and regular checks of serum electrolyte levels and kidney function are required. The hydrochlorothiazide component can cause electrolyte imbalances, elevated blood sugar, hyperuricemia, and rarely acute angle-closure glaucoma or serious skin reactions, so any symptoms that arise should be discussed with a healthcare professional immediately. While taking this medication, precautions should be taken to prevent skin damage from sunlight, and if new skin lesions develop, the healthcare provider should be notified immediately. Caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery due to the potential for dizziness or drowsiness, particularly at the start of treatment or during dosage adjustments. This medication can interact with other antihypertensives, diuretics, and drugs that affect serum potassium, so it is essential to consult with a doctor or pharmacist about other medications being taken. Use in children and adolescents is not recommended as safety and efficacy have not been established.
