Treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease
This medication is used to treat the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease ranging from moderate to severe.
This medication is administered orally once daily and should be taken at the same time each day. If necessary, it can be taken twice daily. It is to be placed on the tongue as an orally disintegrating tablet and swallowed without water. Method of dosage increase: - First week (Day 1-7): Administer 5 mg once daily for 7 days. - Second week (Day 8-14): Administer 10 mg once daily for 7 days. - Third week (Day 15-21): Administer 15 mg once daily for 7 days.
This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, which breaks down into phenylalanine in the body. Therefore, patients with a genetic disorder called phenylketonuria should not take this medication. Care should be taken not to exceed the daily maximum allowable dose of aspartame, and it is safe for adults to consume less than 2.4 grams per day. Patients who are allergic to any component of this medication or have severe liver or kidney dysfunction should not use it. Those with epilepsy or a history of seizures should take this medication with caution as the risk of side effects may increase when taken with certain central nervous system drugs. Patients with changes in urine acidity or recent heart conditions should also take caution. Side effects such as dizziness, headaches, constipation, drowsiness, and hypertension may occur while taking this medication; if symptoms are severe, consult a physician. There may be interactions with other medications, so special caution is needed when taken with NMDA antagonists, antipsychotic drugs, skeletal muscle relaxants, anticoagulants, etc. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should consult a physician before taking this medication, and it is advisable to discontinue breastfeeding if nursing. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been confirmed for children and adolescents under the age of 18, so it is best not to use it. In case of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, hallucinations, and seizures may occur, requiring immediate medical attention. This medication may affect the patient's mental state or reaction time, so caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery. Lastly, keep this medication out of the reach of children and do not transfer it to other containers.
