Thioctic acid is administered when demand increases due to intense physical labor. It is also used in the treatment of inner ear hearing loss caused by conditions such as Leigh syndrome, as well as toxicity from streptomycin and kanamycin. If no effect is observed after about a month of administration, it is recommended not to continue the use. Thus, thioctic acid is used to improve diseases related to nerve and inner ear hearing loss.
