This medication is used to treat myocardial ischemia symptoms resulting from hypertension and stable angina caused by partial occlusion of the coronary arteries or variant angina due to vasospasm. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of angina hospitalization and the related risks of coronary revascularization in patients with confirmed coronary artery disease without heart failure and with more than 40% ejection fraction identified during recent angiography. This medication is effective in improving cardiovascular conditions, alleviating symptoms, and reducing risks for patients.

How to take

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, individuals who are allergic to this medication or similar classes of drugs, breastfeeding women, patients with severely impaired liver function, patients with severely narrowed heart valves, and those in shock should not take this medication. Furthermore, there are patients who require caution when using this medication. Patients with significantly low blood pressure, those with severely impaired kidney function requiring dialysis, elderly patients, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication with caution. Various side effects may occur when taking this medication. Common side effects include flushing, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea. Rarely, blood pressure may drop too low, inflammation of blood vessels may occur, and there could be neurological disturbances or allergic reactions. Patients with weak heart or liver function must exercise greater caution when using this medication. Since its effects manifest slowly, it may not be suitable for urgent treatment of cardiac issues. This medication may interact with several other drugs when taken together. Particularly, it is advisable to avoid taking it with grapefruit juice as it may potentiate the drug's effects. Caution is also needed with certain antibiotics, antihypertensives, immunosuppressants, and it is important to consult a physician or pharmacist. The safety of this medication has not been thoroughly confirmed for pregnant or breastfeeding women, so it is advisable not to use it unless absolutely necessary. If breastfeeding, it is recommended to discontinue nursing. In children, efficacy has been confirmed for some dosages from age 6, though safety and efficacy have not been established for children under 6 years. Elderly patients are recommended to use the standard dosages, and tolerance generally resembles that of younger individuals. Overdose of this medication may cause excessively low blood pressure, palpitations, or severe shock, requiring immediate medical attention. Measures such as gastric lavage or administering activated charcoal may help during an overdose, and careful monitoring of heart and respiratory conditions is necessary for appropriate treatment. This medication presents a low likelihood of impairing the ability to drive or operate machinery; however, care should be taken if symptoms such as dizziness present.
