Improvement of nutritional status through the provision of trace elements
This helps support metabolic functions in the body and maintain normal physiological functions by appropriately supplementing trace elements such as zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, and chromium during intravenous nutrition administration. These trace elements promote immune strength and tissue recovery and are essential for the activation of various enzymes. Thus, it prevents nutritional imbalances or deficiencies and contributes to the overall improvement of the patient's health status.
Use as directed by a physician, adjusting the dosage based on plasma trace element levels as a guideline. For metabolically stable patients receiving non-oral nutritional fluids: Zinc 2.5 to 4 mg per day Copper 0.5 to 1.5 mg per day Manganese 0.15 to 0.8 mg per day Chromium 10 to 15 μg per day Selenium 20 to 40 μg per day Others: For metabolically stable intestinal fluid loss patients: an additional 12.2 mg/L (amount of intestinal fluid loss) or 17.1 mg/kg.
For pediatric patients - Under 5 years: Zinc 100 μg per kg of body weight per day Copper 20 μg per kg of body weight per day Manganese 2 to 10 μg per kg of body weight per day Chromium 0.14 to 0.20 μg per kg of body weight per day Selenium 3 μg per kg of body weight per day
This medication may cause fatal respiratory issues due to benzyl alcohol when used in premature infants, so caution is necessary. Direct intravenous injection in an undiluted state can cause phlebitis, so it must be diluted before use. Being a hypotonic solution, it should only be used in mixed injections and should not be administered as a single component. If any toxic reactions occur from any of the ingredients, administration must be stopped immediately. Aluminum included in non-oral nutritional fluids may cause toxicity with prolonged administration in patients with impaired renal function, especially in premature infants, hence must be used cautiously. Benzyl alcohol should not be administered to neonates and premature infants due to its content. Although trace elements such as zinc, copper, manganese, chromium, and selenium are present in small amounts, toxic symptoms are generally not apparent at normal doses. Before administration, the patient's condition and metabolic requirements must be accurately assessed, and blood trace element levels should be frequently tested to adjust dosages. Patients with renal impairment should be careful as zinc may accumulate in the body, and patients with biliary obstruction are at risk of copper and manganese accumulation. Chromium is excreted through the kidneys, and for diabetic patients, interactions with blood glucose control medications should be considered. Selenium dosage needs to be adjusted in patients with renal and gastrointestinal dysfunction, and in transfusion patients, transfusion effects should be taken into account. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been established, so it should only be used in pregnant women or women of childbearing potential when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks. Overdose may lead to toxicity symptoms of trace elements such as zinc, copper, chromium, and selenium, so the dosage must be strictly adhered to. In particular, excessive zinc intake may cause serious side effects such as hypotension, pulmonary edema, and decreased consciousness, while excessive copper intake may result in collapse, diarrhea, and hypotension. Excessive selenium intake may cause hair loss, dermatitis, gastrointestinal disturbances, and in severe cases, can lead to coma, so caution is warranted. When using this medication, it must be prepared in a sterile condition under a physician’s prescription, and the solution must be checked for discoloration or foreign substances before administration. Store in a dry place at room temperature, out of reach of children. Transferring to other containers may result in quality degradation or accident risk, hence it must be stored in its original packaging.
