Prevention of zinc deficiency and improvement of nutritional status
It is important to supplement zinc for patients receiving Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN). Zinc is an essential mineral for wound healing and maintaining immune function. Zinc deficiency may occur with prolonged TPN, making proper zinc supplementation necessary to prevent it. Zinc supplementation helps improve patients' overall recovery and health.
Use as prescribed by a physician, adjusting the dosage based on plasma trace element levels. Metabolically stable TPN patients: 2.5 to 4 mg/day Adult patients with intestinal fluid loss: an additional 12.2 mg/L (fluid loss amount) or an additional 17.1 mg/kg (excretion amount) Acute burn condition: 4.5 to 6 mg/day
Children under 5 years: 100 ug/kg/day Premature infants weighing less than 3 kg: 300 ug/kg/day
This medication should not be injected directly into peripheral veins in an undiluted state. The reason is that doing so may cause phlebitis or potentially harm the kidneys due to zinc. The amount of zinc included in this medication is very small, so toxic symptoms are rarely seen. It is important to maintain a sterile environment when mixing this medication, and it is recommended to work in a laminar flow hood if possible. Before injection, the medication must be visually inspected for any precipitate or discoloration. When administering zinc, copper levels may decrease, so it is necessary to check copper and zinc blood levels at regular intervals. This medication is excreted via the intestines and kidneys, so caution is necessary for patients with problems in these excretory organs to prevent zinc accumulation in the body. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use this medication if the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks. Zinc can cross the placenta and is present in breast milk, so pregnant and nursing women should exercise caution. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, dizziness, abdominal pain, drowsiness, and ataxia may occur, and in severe cases, can be fatal. Calcium intake may help reduce zinc toxicity. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in a dry place at room temperature. Furthermore, since this medication does not contain preservatives, any unused portion must be discarded.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a sealed container to prevent air and moisture ingress, and it is appropriate to keep it at a temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature. Storing it this way can help maintain the drug's effectiveness for a long time.
