This medication is used to treat osteoarthritis of the knee and periarthritis of the shoulder.

How it is given

Adult administration

Typically, for adults, administer 1 vial once a week for 3 consecutive weeks into the knee joint cavity or shoulder joint (shoulder joint cavity, subacromial bursa, or tendon sheath of the biceps brachii); however, the number of administrations should be adjusted based on symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication's components. Patients who have experienced allergic reactions to other drugs or have liver function issues or a history of liver disease should use this medication with special caution. Additionally, it is advisable not to use this medication if there are skin diseases or infections at the injection site, as this medication is directly injected into the joint. Serious allergic reactions such as shock may occur while using this medication, so the patient's condition should be closely monitored after administration. If any unusual symptoms occur, usage should be discontinued immediately, and appropriate treatment should be sought. Allergic symptoms such as swelling around the face or eyes, rashes, hives, and itching may also appear, so if these symptoms occur, the medication usage should be stopped. Temporary pain, swelling, redness, warmth, or severe pressure may occur at the injection site, and appropriate measures should be taken if these symptoms arise. Rarely, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and fever may occur, so caution is needed. In patients with severe arthritis like osteoarthritis, it is advisable to use this medication after inflammation has subsided, and stabilization of the joint area following administration can be beneficial. If the medication leaks out of the joint, pain may occur, so it must be injected accurately into the joint. Sterile conditions must be maintained during injection, and if symptoms do not improve, administration should be limited to a maximum of three times and then stopped. If fluid accumulates in the joint, a procedure to drain the joint fluid should be performed as needed. This medication is not suitable for intravenous injection or use in the eyes. A needle gauge of approximately 22 to 23 is recommended, and care should be taken as certain disinfectants can cause precipitation when used together. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication only when the benefits are judged to outweigh the risks, and it is recommended to avoid breastfeeding while using this medication. The safety of this medication in children has not been sufficiently established, so it should only be used with caution when absolutely necessary. Elderly patients may have reduced bodily functions; therefore, special caution should be taken when using this medication.
