This medication is used to improve symptoms related to atherosclerosis in patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheral artery disease. Additionally, in patients with acute coronary syndrome who have received drug treatment or procedures, it reduces the risk of cardiovascular complications. It also decreases the risk of stroke and thrombosis in patients with atrial fibrillation who have a low risk of bleeding and for whom Vitamin K antagonists are not suitable. In this way, this medication helps prevent complications associated with various cardiovascular diseases and improves symptoms.

Precautions

This medication helps prevent the clumping of platelets in the blood, allowing better blood flow. When taking this medication, if there is a genetic reduction in the function of a certain enzyme (CYP2C19), the drug's effectiveness may be diminished; in such cases, treatment methods should be adjusted in consultation with a doctor. Moreover, taking medications that activate specific enzymes together can increase the effects of this drug too much, raising the risk of bleeding, so it is advisable not to take them together. Patients with allergies to this medication or those with bleeding, severe liver damage, nursing women, and individuals with genetic conditions such as lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Patients at high risk of bleeding, those with impaired liver or kidney function, the elderly, and underweight patients should use this medication cautiously, and if surgery is planned, they must discuss discontinuation with a physician in advance. If symptoms of bleeding or adverse reactions occur while taking this medication, immediate consultation with medical professionals is necessary, especially when taking other bleeding risk medications together, further caution is required. This medication may cause various side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances, diarrhea, headaches, rashes, and blood-related adverse reactions, so if symptoms persist or worsen, consult a physician. Pregnant or nursing women must consult a physician before taking this medication, as it may affect the fetus or baby, requiring careful consideration. This medication should not be used in children as its safety and efficacy have not been established.
