View approved original text

This medication improves the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia and reduces the enlarged prostate tissue to facilitate urinary flow. Additionally, it decreases the frequency of acute urinary retention, enabling patients to have a more comfortable urination experience. It also reduces the need for prostate surgery (e.g., transurethral resection of the prostate), thus lessening the surgical burden. Overall, it is used for alleviating symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia and improving quality of life.

Precautions

This medication is not to be used by children or women. In particular, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid contact with crushed pieces of this medication, as it could be harmful to male fetuses. Some patients receiving this medication may experience depression or mood changes; if such symptoms occur, they should consult their healthcare provider. This medication should not be used by patients with hypersensitivity reactions, certain genetic metabolic disorders, women, children, or pregnant women. Patients with liver function issues should use this medication carefully. Although generally safe, side effects related to sexual function have been reported, including erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, and ejaculation disorders. These symptoms may persist even after discontinuation of the treatment. Long-term use may lead to some rare but serious side effects, so regular check-ups are necessary. This medication may affect the risk of prostate cancer; therefore, men over 55 should have regular prostate examinations, and a PSA test should take into account the influence of this medication. This medication has relatively few interactions with other drugs; however, patients should consult their healthcare provider if they are on other medications. Pregnant women should not take or handle this medication, and breastfeeding mothers are also advised against using it. Safety and efficacy have not been established in children, so it is not administered to them. Older adults can take this medication just like general adults, and no special dosage adjustments are needed. During treatment with this medication, the results of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests may be affected, so this should be communicated to the healthcare provider at the time of testing. There is no specific treatment for overdose; however, adhering to the recommended dosage is important. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children, and transferring it to another container is not advisable for quality maintenance.
