This medication is used for the prevention and treatment of hypertension, as well as to improve the insufficient blood supply to the heart muscle caused by stable angina and variant angina due to narrowing or sudden constriction of the coronary artery.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken with sufficient amounts of water. Administer 2.5 mg orally once daily as esamlodipine and it can be increased up to a maximum of 5 mg daily depending on the patient's response. Adjust according to symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to individuals with allergies to this drug or similar components, pregnant or nursing women, patients in severe shock, patients with severe heart valve disease, unstable angina patients, individuals within one month post-myocardial infarction, patients with very poor liver function, and patients with severe hypotension. Caution is also advised in patients with very poor kidney function, elderly patients, patients with acute heart failure, patients with suddenly very high blood pressure, and patients with mild to moderately impaired liver function. Multiple side effects can occur while taking this medication. The most common symptoms may include facial flushing or a sensation of warmth, fatigue or swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headaches, abdominal pain, nausea, drowsiness, ankle edema, etc. Less common but possible side effects can include dry mouth or increased sweating, weakness, weight changes, hypotension, fainting, sensory abnormalities, erectile dysfunction, gastrointestinal issues, liver dysfunction, skin rashes, vision changes, urinary problems, etc. If any of these symptoms occur, immediate consultation with medical personnel is essential. Abrupt discontinuation of this medication can worsen symptoms, so it should not be stopped without medical direction, and the dosage should be reduced gradually. It is advisable to take this medication with plenty of water, and caution should be taken when driving or operating dangerous machinery, as dizziness or headaches may arise due to lowered blood pressure. Furthermore, interactions may occur when taken with other medications, so it should be communicated to medical staff if taken with specific antibiotics, antihypertensives, antidepressants, alcohol, grapefruit juice, etc. It is advisable to avoid taking grapefruit juice concurrently. If pregnant or nursing, the safety of this medication is not assured, hence use should be avoided, especially during breastfeeding, where discontinuation of breastfeeding is recommended. In elderly patients, the medication may remain longer in the body, thus starting with a lower dose and careful observation of the condition is necessary. In case of overdose, severe hypotension, arrhythmias, shock, etc. may occur requiring immediate emergency treatment, and this medication is not removed by hemodialysis, thus professional treatment is required. Finally, it should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
