Adult dosage
The therapeutic dose of this drug should be adjusted according to the patient's clinical condition, and the lowest effective dose possible should be administered. Adults: The initial dose of mirtazapine is 15mg per day, and the dose should be increased until an appropriate clinical response is achieved. The usual effective daily dose is 15~45 mg of this drug. Elderly patients: The recommended dose is the same as for adults. When increasing the dose, careful monitoring is necessary to achieve a satisfactory and safe effect. Because the half-life of this drug is 20∼40 hours, once-daily administration is sufficient; if possible, take it at a consistent time in the evening before bedtime. The daily dose of this drug may also be divided into equal doses taken once in the morning and once in the evening. To allow sufficient time to assess the therapeutic response to the dose of this drug, do not change the dose at intervals of less than 1~2 weeks. At an appropriate dose, a therapeutic effect appears within 2~4 weeks. If the therapeutic effect is insufficient, the dose may be increased to the maximum dose. If there is no effect after continuing treatment for a further 2~4 weeks, discontinue treatment. Treatment should continue for at least 4∼6 months until the patient's symptoms have completely resolved. Thereafter, gradual discontinuation of treatment is recommended to avoid withdrawal symptoms. This drug is taken orally. Swallow it with water without chewing.
Children's dosage
Children and adolescents under 18 years of age: Do not use this drug in children or adolescents under 18 years of age.

Precautions

This medication is primarily an antidepressant used for the treatment of major depression. It should be used with caution in children, adolescents, and young adults due to the increased risk of suicidal thoughts or actions. While taking this medication, patients should be closely monitored for worsening depression symptoms, suicidal thoughts, aggression, anger, or any unusual behavioral changes. Family members or caregivers should also carefully observe the patient's condition and consult medical professionals immediately if any abnormal symptoms occur. This medication can rarely cause a severe decrease in white blood cell count, known as agranulocytosis, particularly within 4 to 6 weeks after initiation. If you experience a sore throat, fever, or symptoms of infection, discontinue use immediately and have a blood test performed. Patients with liver or kidney dysfunction, epilepsy, or heart disease, as well as those with diabetes, should exercise extra caution when using this medication. Drowsiness or dizziness may commonly occur at the beginning of treatment, and increased appetite and weight gain are frequently reported. Caution is advised when performing tasks that require alertness, such as driving or operating machinery, and alcohol consumption should be avoided. This medication may interact with other drugs, so you must inform your doctor if you are taking or plan to take any other medications. Particularly, it should not be taken with MAO inhibitors, as there is a risk of severe side effects such as serotonin syndrome. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult with their doctor before taking this medication, and it is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age. In case of overdose, serious side effects may occur, so it is essential to adhere to the prescribed dosage and store the medication out of the reach of children. If you experience any abnormal symptoms or discomfort while taking this medication, it is crucial to consult with medical professionals immediately.
