This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in both postmenopausal women and men. Osteoporosis is a condition that causes bones to weaken, increasing the risk of fractures, and this medication helps maintain and strengthen bone health. Therefore, it assists in reducing the fracture risk associated with osteoporosis.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet of this medication orally once a week. Since food may interfere with the absorption of this medication, take it at least 30 minutes before breakfast or at least 2 hours before or after any food or beverage intake throughout the day. When taking this medication, maintain an upright position and take it with sufficient pure water (170 ~ 230ml), and do not chew or suck on the tablet. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking.

Precautions

This medication may irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa, which could lead to esophageal issues such as esophagitis and esophageal ulcers. If symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, painful swallowing, pain behind the sternum, or heartburn occur after taking this medication, discontinue use and consult a physician immediately. It must be taken with a sufficient amount of water, and the patient should remain upright for at least 30 minutes after taking it, sitting or standing before use. Patients with esophageal motility disorders or severe renal impairment, as well as those with hypocalcemia, should not use this medication. Additionally, genetically predisposed individuals, such as those with lactose intolerance, should avoid this medication. Various adverse reactions may occur with this medication; if symptoms such as pain, rash, allergic reactions, or gastrointestinal symptoms arise during treatment, inform a physician. Rare side effects like osteonecrosis of the jaw or external ear bone necrosis have been reported, necessitating caution during dental treatments and oral hygiene maintenance. Supplementation with calcium and vitamin D may be necessary if deficient, and hypocalcemia or vitamin D deficiency should be treated before use. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid this medication or consult a professional. The safety of this medication in children has not been established, and there is no need for special caution in elderly patients. Overdosage may result in hypocalcemia symptoms, requiring immediate treatment, and gastric lavage or calcium supplementation is recommended.
