Reduction of cholesterol and lipid levels in primary hypercholesterolemia (familial) and sitosterolemia to mitigate cardiovascular disease risk
This drug is used to lower elevated cholesterol and lipid levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, and homozygous sitosterolemia. It is administered alone or in combination with other lipid-lowering agents as an adjunct to dietary therapy aimed at reducing total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), apolipoprotein B, etc., in patients with hypercholesterolemia. It is important to ensure that secondary causes of dyslipidemia, such as diabetes and hypothyroidism, are excluded before using this medication along with dietary therapy. Treatment should begin after accurate assessment of the condition through lipid testing, and patients with acute coronary events may also be included in treatment.
