This medication helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular surgery, and angina in adults with risk factors for coronary heart disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is also effective in reducing the risk of hospitalization due to myocardial infarction, stroke, and heart failure in patients with heart disease and alleviating symptoms of angina. Additionally, it lowers total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apo-B, and triglyceride levels in patients with hyperlipidemia, while increasing HDL cholesterol levels. It is an adjunct to diet in the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia, as well as familial hypercholesterolemia. It is used to lower cholesterol levels in pediatric patients with a family history or risk factors for heart disease. This medication is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and hyperlipidemia and to improve blood lipid levels.
