Effect of reducing essential hypertension and cardiovascular disease risk
This medication is used to control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease in patients aged 55 or older with a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral arterial disease, stroke, or transient ischemic attack, or in patients with high-risk diabetes. In these patient populations, this medication plays a role in reducing the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and mortality due to cardiovascular disease. Therefore, it is effectively used for essential hypertension and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.
1. Essential hypertension Telmisartan, 40 mg should be taken orally once daily with water, with no regard to meals. If necessary, the dose may be increased to 80 mg once daily. 2. Reduction of cardiovascular disease risk It is recommended to take this medication, 80 mg orally once daily with water. Patients with liver impairment In patients with mild to moderate liver impairment, caution should be exercised to not exceed 40 mg once daily.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn, especially during pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. It should not be used by individuals allergic to this medication or its ingredients, by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, by patients with severe liver dysfunction, hereditary angioedema, or by patients with diabetes or severe kidney impairment. Caution should be exercised when prescribing this medication to elderly patients, patients with hyperkalemia or those whose potassium levels easily increase, patients with liver dysfunction, patients with heart valve disease, and patients with ischemic heart disease or cerebrovascular disorders. During treatment with this medication, various adverse reactions may occur, such as infections, blood abnormalities, allergic reactions, hypotension, gastrointestinal disorders, liver function abnormalities, muscle pain, and renal dysfunction; hence, symptoms should be carefully monitored. In particular, if symptoms of angioedema occur, the medication should be stopped immediately and healthcare personnel should be notified. Prompt action is also required if hyperkalemia or renal function deterioration is suspected. It is recommended that this medication be administered to patients with compromised kidney function while regularly monitoring potassium and creatinine levels in the blood. In patients with decreased blood volume or sodium deficiency, hypotension may occur, so conditions should be corrected before administration. Caution is needed when taking this medication with other antihypertensives as blood pressure may drop too low; potassium levels should be frequently checked when used in conjunction with certain diuretics or potassium supplements. This medication may cause dizziness or fainting during driving or operating hazardous machinery, so caution is required. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, as well as breastfeeding women, should avoid using this medication. If it must be used under unavoidable circumstances, consultation with healthcare personnel is necessary. Safety and efficacy have not been established in children under 18 years of age, therefore its use is not recommended. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, dizziness, acute renal failure may occur, necessitating immediate assistance from healthcare personnel, and since the medication is not removed by dialysis, appropriate treatment is required based on symptoms. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it is crucial to maintain its sealed state until taken.
