Treatment of male pattern hair loss
This medication is used primarily for the treatment of male pattern hair loss, also known as androgenetic alopecia, which predominantly occurs in adult males aged 18 to 41 years. It helps slow the progression of hair loss and promotes hair growth. With consistent use, improvement in the scalp condition of affected areas and increased hair thickness can be expected. Continuous dosing is important to see results, as the effects may take some time to appear. It also helps enhance overall hair health and restore confidence. It is effectively used in the treatment of male pattern hair loss.
Typically, finasteride is administered orally at a dosage of 1 mg once a day, with no restrictions regarding meals. There is no evidence that increasing the dose enhances effectiveness. Generally, treatment effects can be seen after taking it for at least 3 months, and continuous use is recommended to maintain treatment effects. The treatment duration and effectiveness should be evaluated continuously, and treatment effects will diminish within 12 months of stopping the medication.
This medication should not be used in pediatric patients and women. In particular, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should avoid contact with broken tablets, as this may be harmful to male fetuses. Depression or mood changes may occur during the use of this medication; therefore, consultation with a healthcare professional is advised if there are any changes in mental state. Pregnant women or those who might become pregnant should not use this medication, and patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or certain genetic lactose intolerances should also avoid it. Patients with liver function impairment or lipid metabolism disorders should use this medication with caution, as side effects such as sexual dysfunction, breast tenderness, rash, and muscle pain may occur. Some studies have shown a potential association with prostate cancer risk, so men over the age of 55 should have regular check-ups while using this medication. While clinically significant interactions with other medications are not known, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional if using other medications concurrently. If side effects such as lumps or pain in the breasts, nipple discharge, reduced ejaculate volume, or decreased libido occur, inform a doctor immediately. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and care should be taken to avoid transferring it to another container, as this may affect its quality. There are no specific antidotes for overdose, but excessive consumption should be avoided, and immediate consultation with a healthcare professional is recommended if any adverse symptoms appear.
