This medication is effective for the treatment and symptom relief of gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive esophagitis. It also helps in the treatment and prevention of recurrence of duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. It is used for the alleviation of upper gastrointestinal symptoms and treatment of gastric ulcers due to the administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), as well as in the prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers. This drug is also effective for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and for maintenance therapy after preventing rebleeding of gastric or duodenal ulcers. Therefore, this medication is used for the treatment and prevention of various symptoms and diseases related to gastrointestinal disorders.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to certain patients. Patients with allergies to this drug or its components, or a history of hypersensitivity to the benzimidazole class, should not use it. Patients allergic to certain antibiotics used with this medication should also avoid taking it. Patients taking specific cardiac medications or antiviral agents and women who are breastfeeding should not take this medication. Care should be taken when taking this medication as various side effects may occur. Reports of various adverse reactions have been noted, including blood-related abnormalities, immune responses, electrolyte imbalance, changes in mental state, neurological symptoms, gastrointestinal issues, abnormal liver function, and skin reactions. In particular, if symptoms such as myalgia or weakness occur, immediate consultation with medical personnel is advised as there may be a serious possibility of muscle damage. Regular health check-ups are necessary if this medication is used for a long time. If gastrointestinal symptoms worsen or new symptoms appear, consulting a physician is essential. Additionally, this medication can lower gastric acidity and increase the risk of gastrointestinal bacterial infections, so if diarrhea persists, it should be communicated to healthcare providers. This medication can interact with other drugs, so if you are taking any medications, make sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist. Care should be taken especially when used with anticoagulants, antiviral agents, certain antibiotics, and anticonvulsants. Urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis, shock, hypomagnesemia leading to hypocalcemia and hypokalemia, mental confusion, blurred vision, bronchospasm, pancreatitis, hepatitis, jaundice, liver failure, skin rashes, urticaria, erythema multiforme, mucocutaneous syndrome, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, Lyell's syndrome, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, drug reactions with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms, muscle weakness, interstitial nephritis.

Mild side effects

Headache, dizziness, sensory disturbances, drowsiness, taste disorders, blurred vision, bronchospasm, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal distension, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, stomatitis, increased liver enzymes, hepatitis, dermatitis, itching, rash, hair loss, photosensitivity, fractures, arthralgia, myalgia, muscle weakness, interstitial nephritis, gynecomastia, asthenia, increased sweating, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, abdominal bloating, allergic reactions, back pain, chest pain, sternum pain.
