This medication is used for specific adult patients who require simultaneous administration of clopidogrel and aspirin. It helps improve cardiovascular discomfort, death due to coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, stroke, or ischemic symptoms in patients with acute coronary syndrome, particularly those with unstable angina or non-ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction, who have undergone or will undergo coronary interventions or coronary artery bypass grafting. Moreover, it is used to lower the risk of stroke and thromboembolism in atrial fibrillation patients with one or more vascular risk factors where vitamin K antagonists are inappropriate, and who have a low risk of bleeding. Therefore, it effectively acts to prevent cardiovascular complications and stroke in these patients.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Administer 1 capsule once a day.

Precautions

This medication prevents blood clotting and thrombus formation. However, taking this medication may prolong the time for bleeding to stop, so immediate medical attention should be sought if bleeding is severe or lasts a long time. Before undergoing surgery or taking new medications, it is essential to inform healthcare professionals that you are currently taking this drug. Individuals genetically predisposed to reduced functionality of a specific enzyme (CYP2C19) may experience diminished effects of this medication, leading to more frequent cardiovascular issues. Additionally, taking medications that enhance the activity of this enzyme may increase the bleeding risk, so concurrent use is not recommended. People who regularly consume large amounts of alcohol may have an increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding while taking this medication, and should consult a doctor or pharmacist. This medication should not be administered to patients with specific conditions, such as bleeding disorders, severe liver dysfunction, renal impairment, heart failure, those in late pregnancy or breastfeeding, and those with lactose intolerance. Patients with a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or a tendency to bleed should be more cautious when taking this medication and seek immediate medical advice if bleeding symptoms occur. Especially in cases where surgery is planned, it is necessary to discontinue this medication 5-7 days prior to the procedure. Caution is also advised when combining this medication with other antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs as this may increase bleeding risk. This medication can rarely cause side effects such as decreased blood cell counts, skin rashes, gastrointestinal disorders, headaches, dizziness, etc. If severe allergic reactions or bleeding occur, it should be discontinued immediately, and healthcare professionals should be notified. This medication should not be taken during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester, and should only be used during early pregnancy or the second trimester if the benefits outweigh the risks under a doctor’s judgment. It is recommended that breastfeeding individuals not take this medication. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children and adolescents under 18 have not been established, so it is not recommended. This medication does not affect driving or machine operation, but caution is needed due to the bleeding risk. In case of overdose, the bleeding risk may increase, and while there is no specific antidote, platelet transfusions can be used to control bleeding if necessary.
