This medication is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in both postmenopausal women and men.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet of this medication orally once a week. Since food can interfere with the absorption of this medication, take it at least 30 minutes before breakfast or at least 2 hours before or after food or beverages. Take it with a sufficient amount of plain water (170-230 ml) while maintaining an upright position, and do not chew or suck on it. Avoid lying down for at least 30 minutes after taking the medication.

Precautions

This medication may irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa, potentially resulting in adverse esophageal reactions such as esophagitis, esophageal ulcers, and esophageal stricture. It should be taken with a sufficient amount of water (170-230 ml), and the patient should remain upright for at least 30 minutes after taking it. If symptoms such as dysphagia, odynophagia, retrosternal pain, or heartburn occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Patients with esophageal motility disorders or severe renal impairment should not take this medication. This medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance should avoid taking it. Calcium and vitamin D deficiencies must be treated prior to use, and supplementation may be necessary if needed. Patients who have dental surgery or oral infections should be cautious due to the risk of osteonecrosis of the jaws. When taking bisphosphonate medications, there may be rare occurrences of worsening bone, joint, and muscle pain; consult a physician if these symptoms arise. Taking this medication with other calcium, magnesium, iron, aluminum-containing drugs or food may interfere with absorption, so it should be taken at a time interval. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid taking this medication or consult a doctor. Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established, while elderly patients may use it without special precautions. Overdose may lead to hypocalcemia, and immediate treatment should be sought if symptoms arise. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and it is advisable not to transfer it to other containers.
