This medication helps to effectively control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. It is also used to reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and mortality from cardiovascular diseases in patients with a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, strokes, or high-risk diabetes. It is especially suitable for patients who have difficulty using ACE inhibitors. This medicine lowers the risks associated with cardiovascular diseases, improving the overall health status of the patient. Therefore, it is used both for managing hypertension and for reducing cardiovascular disease risk.

How to take

Adult dose

1. Essential hypertension Telmisartan should be taken orally at a dose of 40 mg once daily with water, and can be taken regardless of meals. In some patients, 20 mg once daily may be effective. If necessary, the dosage may be increased up to 80 mg once daily. Dosage increases show the maximum blood pressure-lowering effect 4-8 weeks after starting treatment. 2. Precautions

This medication can pose serious risks to the fetus and newborn during pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients allergic to this medication or its ingredients, pregnant or nursing women, patients with severe liver impairment, hereditary angioedema, and those with certain kidney diseases should not take this medication. Elderly patients, those with high potassium levels, liver impairment, heart valve disease, ischemic heart disease, gastrointestinal diseases, and renal impairment should take precautions while using this medication. During treatment, various side effects such as hypotension, dizziness, cough, abdominal pain, liver dysfunction, angioedema, myalgia, and renal impairment may occur, so if any unusual symptoms arise, a doctor should be consulted immediately. Particular caution is advised if taking potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics due to the potential for increased potassium levels in the blood. This medication may enhance the blood pressure-lowering effects if taken with other antihypertensive agents, so it should be taken according to the doctor's instructions. Patients with reduced kidney function should have regular blood tests to monitor kidney function and electrolyte levels. It is advisable not to take this medication for 24 hours prior to surgery, and caution is needed when driving or operating dangerous machinery due to the risk of dizziness or fainting. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, heart rhythm abnormalities, dizziness, and acute renal failure may occur, necessitating immediate hospital treatment. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children and adolescents have not been established, so it is not recommended for this population. Store in a place out of the reach of children, ensure it is protected from moisture, and open the packaging just before use.
