Improvement of selenium deficiency
Selenium is a trace element that plays an important role in the body. Supplementing selenium for patients with selenium deficiency who do not receive adequate dietary supply helps correct the deficiency state and maintain normal metabolic function. This promotes immune enhancement and antioxidant effects, improving overall health. Therefore, it is effectively used for the improvement of symptoms in patients with selenium deficiency.
Administer 100 μg of selenium daily via intramuscular or intravenous injection. If necessary, the dose may be increased to 200 μg daily. If administered as an additional dose to the basic total parenteral nutrition (TPN) regimen, the daily dose should be 100 μg of selenium.
This medication contains selenium, so it should not be used in patients with selenium poisoning. It should not be administered to patients who have hypersensitivity to this medicine or its components. Pain or allergic reactions may rarely occur during injection, so caution is needed. If symptoms such as dermatitis, foul odor during sweating or breathing, hair loss, irritability, or vomiting appear, discontinue use immediately. When mixing with other intravenous solutions, care should be taken to prevent the formation of precipitates, and if the acidity of the solution is too low or if mixed with reducing agents like Vitamin C, selenium may precipitate. Do not use if precipitates or color changes are observed after mixing. This medication contains sodium, so patients on a low-sodium diet should consider this. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should only use this medication when the benefits of treatment are deemed to outweigh the risks. For breastfeeding women, as the safety of this medication has not been established, it is recommended to either discontinue breastfeeding or to stop using the medication. In case of overdose, symptoms such as a garlic odor from the mouth, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may occur, and prolonged use may affect nail and hair growth and lead to neurological disorders. In case of overdose, treatments such as gastric lavage, induced diuresis, and high-dose Vitamin C administration may be necessary, and in very severe cases, dialysis may be required to remove selenium. The drug Dimercaprol may exacerbate selenium toxicity, so it should not be used in case of overdose. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and in a shaded, dry place at room temperature. It should be used immediately after opening, and care must be taken as transferring it to another container can pose risks of accidents and quality degradation.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a sealed container to prevent exposure to air or moisture. It should be kept at a temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius, and it is advisable to store it in a dark place away from direct sunlight.
