Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension
Used for patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy of amlodipine or telmisartan. This medication effectively lowers blood pressure, helping to prevent cardiovascular complications. It can be considered as an additional treatment option when blood pressure control is difficult.
The recommended dosage of this medication is 1 tablet once a day, to be taken with water regardless of meals. It is advised to take it at the same time each day (e.g., morning) if possible. In cases of severe renal impairment, treatment should be started with a lower dose and increased gradually. For patients with liver impairment, the daily dose of telmisartan should not exceed 40 milligrams. Elderly patients (75 years and older) should start at a lower dose and gradually increase.
The safety and efficacy for patients under 18 years of age have not been established; therefore, the use of this medication is not recommended.
This medication can pose serious risks to the fetus during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, therefore it should not be taken by pregnant women or women who may become pregnant. This drug should not be given to patients with certain conditions, such as liver impairment, severe hypotension, heart-related diseases, or those who have hypersensitivity to certain medications. Additionally, special caution is required for patients with primary aldosteronism, those with impaired kidney function, gastrointestinal disorders, and elderly patients. Side effects such as dizziness or peripheral edema may occur during treatment, and in severe cases, syncope or cardiac problems may arise, thus if any abnormalities occur, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is advised. Cases of dangerously low blood pressure may occur, so patients with fluid or salt depletion should discuss with their physician before taking the medication, and appropriate treatment is necessary if symptoms of hypotension arise. There is a risk of elevated potassium levels in the blood, so patients at risk of hyperkalemia should have regular blood tests, and particular caution should be taken when using potassium supplements or medications containing potassium. Patients with impaired kidney function should monitor kidney function and serum electrolyte levels periodically during treatment with this medication. This drug may interact with other medications, so if other drugs are being taken, it is vital to inform healthcare professionals, especially when used in combination with specific heart medications, diuretics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and grapefruit juice. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication, and if pregnancy is confirmed, use should be stopped immediately, and other treatment options should be explored. This medication is not recommended for children under the age of 18 due to insufficient evidence of safety and efficacy. Elderly patients may require dosage adjustments, particularly those over the age of 75 should start with a lower dose and increase gradually. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, dizziness, and arrhythmia may occur, requiring immediate medical assistance and, if necessary, emergency care. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container to maintain product quality.
