This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and in the treatment of osteoporosis in men.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults: One tablet of this medication is taken orally once a week. Since it can interfere with the absorption of food, take it at least 30 minutes before breakfast or at least 2 hours before or after food intake throughout the day. Take it upright with a sufficient amount of pure water (170-230ml) and do not chew or suck on it. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking.

Child dose

Safety and efficacy in children and adolescents have not been established.

Precautions

This medication may irritate the gastric or esophageal mucosa, increasing the risk of problems like esophagitis and esophageal ulcers. After taking, it is essential to take it with a sufficient amount of water and not lie down for at least 30 minutes. Patients with esophageal issues or dysphagia should avoid this medication. Moreover, this drug requires supplementation if intake of calcium and vitamin D is insufficient, as it helps in treating osteoporosis. It is advisable not to take this medication simultaneously with other drugs or foods containing calcium, magnesium, iron, etc. Patients with severe renal disease or certain genetic metabolic abnormalities should not use this medication. Rarely, side effects such as skin rash, itching, muscle pain, joint pain, headache, and dyspepsia may occur. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding must consult a doctor before taking this medication. It is not used in children as safety and efficacy have not been established.

Hives, severe swelling, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mucous membranes of mouth/eyes, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attack, respiratory distress accompanied by cough and fever, yellowing of skin or eyes, extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizure, confusion, vision abnormalities, paralysis, markedly reduced urine output
