This medication is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in both postmenopausal women and men.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet of this medication orally once a week. Since food may interfere with the absorption of this medication, take it at least 30 minutes before breakfast or at least 2 hours before or after consuming any food or drink during the day. It should be taken with a sufficient amount of plain water (170-230 ml) while in an upright position, as consuming it with other beverages including mineral water may reduce absorption. It should not be chewed or sucked.

Precautions

This medication can irritate the mucous membranes of the stomach and esophagus, which may result in esophagitis, esophageal ulcers, or esophageal erosion. Patients with esophageal diseases such as esophageal stricture or achalasia, patients with hypocalcemia, patients with severe renal impairment, and patients who cannot remain upright for 30 minutes after taking this medication should not take it. It should be taken with a sufficient amount of water, and patients should remain upright for at least 30 minutes after taking it. If any symptoms of esophageal irritation occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. This medication may be required for supplementation if there is inadequate intake of calcium and vitamin D, especially in patients undergoing long-term steroid therapy. As a bisphosphonate, serious side effects such as osteonecrosis of the jaw, skin allergic reactions, and severe gastrointestinal bleeding may occur rarely; notify medical staff immediately if any unusual symptoms arise. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding must consult a doctor before taking this medication, and safety in children has not been established. When taking this medication, it may interfere with the absorption of other medications or foods containing calcium, magnesium, iron, etc., so a time interval should be maintained. Overdose may lead to hypocalcemia, which would require appropriate treatment and medical supervision. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and it is important not to transfer it to other containers during storage.
