Improvement of oral mucositis (angular cheilitis, cheilitis, etc.) and dermatitis (eczema, etc.) related to vitamin B6 deficiency and metabolic disorders
This medication is used to prevent and treat vitamin B6 deficiency. It also provides assistance when vitamin B6 becomes insufficient due to drug administration. It is prescribed in situations where the need for vitamin B6 increases and cannot be met through food intake alone, such as in patients with wasting diseases, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and oral contraceptive users. It is effective in treating vitamin B6 dependent diseases, especially vitamin B6 responsive anemia. Additionally, it is used for various symptoms related to vitamin B6 deficiency or metabolic disorders, such as angular cheilitis, cheilitis, stomatitis, eczema, and peripheral neuropathy. In summary, this medication is used to prevent and improve various diseases and symptoms associated with vitamin B6 deficiency.
As pyridoxine hydrochloride, 10-100 mg should be administered once or twice daily via intramuscular, subcutaneous, or intravenous injection. In cases of vitamin B6 dependency, higher doses may be administered. Adjust according to age and symptoms.
This medication is an ampoule injection, so care should be taken when cutting the container to avoid glass fragments contaminating the solution. Extra caution is necessary when administering to children and the elderly. It should not be administered to patients with an allergy to this medication or its components or those taking levodopa. Side effects such as light sensitivity reactions, nausea, headache, and drowsiness may occur. Long-term use of high doses may lead to neurological abnormalities such as nerve spasms, numbness in the limbs, and motor coordination disorders, and it may take a long time for symptoms to improve. Discomfort or pain may occur at the injection site. In cases of large doses administered to newborns or infants, serious side effects such as muscle damage and kidney dysfunction may occur, so careful monitoring is required and use should be discontinued immediately if abnormalities occur. High doses during pregnancy may induce vitamin B6 dependency syndrome in newborns, so caution should be exercised. When administering high doses to vitamin B6 dependent patients, start with a small amount in newborns and infants and gradually increase to reach an appropriate dosage. After high dose administration, temporary dependency may occur, so it is safer to reduce the dosage gradually before stopping. This medication may reduce the effects of levodopa, so concurrent use should be avoided. Additionally, isoniazid, penicillamine, and oral contraceptives can increase the requirement for vitamin B6, so caution is advised. When used in conjunction with certain anticancer drugs, it may reduce neurotoxicity but may shorten the treatment duration, so it is best to avoid concurrent use. If pregnant, especially avoid high doses and consider its effects on the newborn. Newborns or infants could exhibit side effects such as rhabdomyolysis, diarrhea, vomiting, or abnormal liver function, so administration should be done carefully. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Medications should not be transferred to other containers; they must be kept in their original container and tightly closed to maintain quality and safety.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a sealed container that blocks light and kept at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage will help maintain efficacy and prevent deterioration.
