This medication is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It is also effective for treating osteoporosis in men. Osteoporosis is a condition that increases the risk of fractures due to weakened bones, and this medication can help increase bone strength and prevent fractures. Therefore, it is used as a therapeutic agent for managing osteoporosis.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults: Take 1 tablet of this medication orally once a week. Since food may interfere with the absorption of this medication, take it at least 30 minutes before breakfast or at least 2 hours before or after consuming food or drinks at any time during the day. Take it in an upright position with an adequate amount of plain water (170-230 mL), and do not chew or suck on it. Avoid lying down for at least 30 minutes after taking it.

Precautions

This medication may irritate the mucosa of the stomach and esophagus, potentially leading to esophagitis, esophageal ulcers, and esophageal stricture problems. If you have difficulty swallowing, pain, pain behind the sternum, or symptoms of heartburn during medication use, discontinue immediately and consult a physician. When taking this medication, it should be taken with a sufficient amount of water (170-230 mL), and you should not lie down for at least 30 minutes afterwards. Patients with esophageal narrowing or achalasia, hypocalcemia, severe renal impairment, or those who cannot sit or stand for at least 30 minutes should not take this medication. This medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance should also avoid it. During treatment, do not take medications or foods containing calcium, magnesium, iron, aluminum, etc., at the same time as this medication, and maintain an interval of time before and after taking the medication. This medication may rarely cause side effects such as jaw osteonecrosis, occasional skin rash, allergic reactions, muscle pain, and joint pain, so if any abnormal symptoms occur, you should inform your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should decide on taking this medication after consulting your physician, and safety and efficacy have not been established in children. In case of overdose, blood calcium and phosphorus levels may decrease, so seek medical attention immediately for appropriate measures. Store the medication out of reach of children and avoid transferring it to other containers.
