Treatment of essential hypertension and reduction of cardiovascular disease risk
This medication is used to treat essential hypertension. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death from cardiovascular disease in high-risk patients over 55 years old who cannot use ACE inhibitors. It is especially effective in patients with a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, transient ischemic attack, or high-risk diabetes. These effects improve and prevent cardiovascular health in patients.
Essential Hypertension: Administer 40 mg of telmisartan once daily orally with water. It can be taken irrespective of meals. The maximum antihypertensive effect is observed 4 to 8 weeks after starting treatment. Reduction of Cardiovascular Disease Risk: Administer 80 mg of this medication once daily.
