This medication is used for the prevention and treatment of vitamin B6 deficiency. It is particularly effective when vitamin B6 is depleted due to the administration of certain drugs. It is also helpful when the demand for vitamin B6 increases during conditions such as wasting diseases, pregnancy, lactation, or use of oral contraceptives, where sufficient intake solely through diet is difficult. Additionally, it is used in the treatment of anemia related to vitamin B6 dependency and applies to inflammatory conditions around the oral cavity such as angular cheilitis, cheilitis, stomatitis, and glossitis, as well as skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. It is also effective in improving symptoms of peripheral neuropathy or radiation damage, thereby aiding in the treatment of various symptoms caused by vitamin B6 deficiency or metabolic disorders.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

As pyridoxine hydrochloride, administer 10 to 100 mg per day divided into 1 to 2 doses by intramuscular, subcutaneous, or intravenous injection. High doses may be administered in cases of vitamin B6 dependency. Adjust according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication is in an ampoule form for injection, and care should be taken when opening the container to avoid the inclusion of glass fragments. Extra caution is advisable when administering to children or the elderly. It should not be administered to patients who are allergic to this drug or its ingredients, or to patients currently taking levodopa. Side effects such as light sensitivity reactions, nausea, headache, and drowsiness may occur with this medication. Long-term high-dose use may lead to neurological damage, such as nerve cramps, limb paralysis, and movement disorders, and significant time may be required for symptoms to improve. Pain or discomfort at the injection site may occur. In infants or young children, high doses may lead to muscle damage causing rhabdomyolysis and severe renal impairment; therefore, conditions should be closely monitored and administration should be stopped immediately if abnormalities are observed. High-dose use during pregnancy may affect the fetus, so caution is necessary. When administering to neonates or infants, dosing should begin with very small amounts and gradually increase; after high-dose administration, it is safer to gradually taper off. The efficacy of this medication may be diminished when used with levodopa, and it should not be co-administered. Additionally, some medications may increase the requirement for vitamin B6, so possible interactions with concurrent medications should be checked. Those who are pregnant or nursing must consult a physician before use. Keep this medication out of reach of children or others to prevent accidental ingestion. Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and do not transfer the medicine from its original container to another container; it is important to keep it tightly closed in its original container.
