Treatment of gastrointestinal diseases such as gastric and duodenal ulcers and gastritis
This medication is used for gastrointestinal diseases such as ulcers in the stomach and duodenum, gastritis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also effective in conditions with excessive gastric acid secretion, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It can be administered before anesthesia to prevent Mendelssohn syndrome and is helpful in treating postoperative ulcers. This medication is used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It contributes to symptom relief and recovery from various gastrointestinal diseases. Overall, it is used to improve the health of the stomach and duodenum.
Generally, take 1 tablet orally twice a day, morning and bedtime, regardless of meals. 1) Gastric and duodenal ulcers: Administer 1 tablet twice daily or 2 tablets once daily at bedtime. 2) Gastroesophageal reflux disease: For 8 weeks, take 1 tablet twice a day or 2 tablets once daily at bedtime. In severe cases, the dose may be increased to 2 tablets four times a day. 3) Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: Start therapy with an initial dose of 1 tablet three times a day, increasing as needed. In severe cases, according to a physician’s instructions, up to 6 g of ranitidine may be given per day. 4) Peptic ulcers, acute stress ulcers, and upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to acute mucosal lesions: Once oral administration is possible, switch from injection to oral administration of 1 tablet twice a day. 5) Pre-anesthetic administration (prevention of Mendelssohn syndrome): Take 1 tablet 2 hours before anesthesia induction. It is also beneficial to take 1 tablet the night before surgery.
This medication should not be used in patients with severely impaired kidney function or those undergoing dialysis. Patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication or its components should avoid its use. Caution is needed in patients with a history of acute porphyria, as this medication may provoke seizures. It should also not be administered to patients who have had upper gastrointestinal surgeries, pregnant women or women of childbearing potential, premature infants and newborns. Patients on dietary restrictions limiting potassium intake should also avoid using this medication. This medication should be administered with caution to patients with decreased liver function, those who have previously had drug hypersensitivity reactions, elderly patients, and patients with kidney function issues. Regular monitoring is necessary for elderly patients and those with a history of peptic ulcers when taking NSAIDs in combination with this medication. This medication may mask symptoms of gastric cancer, so gastric ulcer patients or those over middle age with new or changed dyspeptic symptoms should verify malignancy before use. Patients with Helicobacter pylori infection associated with gastric or duodenal ulcers require bacterial eradication treatment. Severe patients in the intensive care unit should be monitored as they may develop gastric stones. Patients with hypophosphatemia should exercise caution, as this medication's aluminum component may interfere with phosphate absorption. Patients with swallowing difficulties may be at risk for respiratory complications and should be monitored. During administration, there may rarely be severe allergic reactions or shock, so if symptoms occur, treatment should be stopped immediately, and care should be provided. Discontinue the administration in the presence of skin rash, hives, angioedema, fever, or bronchospasm as hypersensitivity reactions. Blood tests may show leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, or liver function abnormalities; report any abnormal symptoms immediately to healthcare professionals and discontinue use. Cardiovascular issues such as arrhythmias or vasculitis may also occur rarely, so caution is required. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, and stool color may turn black, but this does not require special treatment. Nervous system symptoms may include dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, seizures, insomnia, and headache, which may occur rarely; consult healthcare professionals if any abnormal symptoms arise. Muscle pain or joint pain may occur, and in severe cases, rhabdomyolysis may develop, so pay attention to symptoms. Skin rashes, erythema multiforme, hair loss, etc., have been reported rarely, and the tongue may turn black, but usually self-resolves. Do not use for extended periods and change to another medication if there is no therapeutic effect. Caution is advised for elderly patients or those with chronic lung disease, diabetes, or immune suppression, as the risk of pneumonia may increase. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs, avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery. Interactions with other medications may occur, so it's especially important to inform healthcare providers when taking anticoagulants or certain antibiotics, anticonvulsants, etc. It is safer not to use this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Safety for children has not been established, so it is advisable not to use it in this population. In case of overdose, emergency measures such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be needed, and in some cases, blood dialysis may be required. This medication reduces gastric acid secretion, which may promote bacterial overgrowth in the gastrointestinal tract; thus, regular assessment including eye examinations may be necessary for long-term use.
