This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet once weekly orally. Take at least 30 minutes before breakfast or at least 2 hours before or after food or beverage intake. Take with an adequate amount of plain water (170-230 mL) and do not chew or suck the tablet. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it.

Precautions

This medication may irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa, leading to adverse esophageal reactions such as esophagitis, esophageal ulcers, and esophageal erosion. Symptoms may include dysphagia, odynophagia, pain behind the sternum, and heartburn. If these symptoms occur, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor. Take this medication with a sufficient amount of water, and do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it, following the prescribed dosage method strictly. Do not administer to patients with esophageal motility disorders, hypocalcemia, or severe renal impairment. Additionally, patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should also avoid this medication. Various adverse reactions may occur during use, such as gastrointestinal disorders, bone pain, joint pain, muscle pain, skin rash, respiratory symptoms, etc. Particularly, this medication has rare side effects of osteonecrosis of the jaw; if dental treatment is necessary, consulting a specialist is required. Calcium and vitamin D intake may need supplementation, and be cautious as concomitant use with drugs containing divalent cations such as calcium and magnesium may hinder absorption. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a doctor before taking this medication, as it may affect the fetus. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established, so it is advisable not to use it. In the case of overdose, hypocalcemia may occur, so seek medical assistance immediately. Store this medication out of reach of children, and avoid transferring it to another container as this may cause a decrease in quality.
